Here's how much Georgians are saving at the pump after gas prices dropped

Drivers are saving about $5 in their pockets as they fill up their tanks at the start of this week.

ATLANTA — According to AAA, gas prices are dropping for Georgians. Drivers are paying an average of $3.37 per gallon compared to last week.

The Peach State saw prices are two cents lower than a week ago and 34 cents less than this time in 2022, the association said.

For the metro Atlanta area, drivers are paying about $3.35.

“Georgians felt some relief at the pump this past weekend,” said an AAA spokeswoman.

Drivers are saving about $5 in their pockets as they fill up their tanks at the start of this week.

Officials with the association said that since the price of crude oil fell, gas prices will also drop.

“If this oil price trend continues, drivers may see falling gas prices this week as well, " the spokeswoman added.

According to data from the Energy Information Administration, gas demand decreased, but domestic gas stocks increased.

The association said lower demand, alongside growth in stocks, would typically push pump prices down, but elevated oil prices over the past month have pushed national pump prices higher in some states, including the Peach State.

Georgia's gas prices are currently about 30 cents less than the national average.

The association stated that the metro Atlanta markets with the least expensive prices are Rome and Gainesville.

Here's some tips from the AAA for drivers to save money:

  • Shop around for lower prices at different gas stations.
  • Prices when using cash are cheaper. Some retailers may charge extra for those using credit cards.
  • The AAA suggests drivers use a fuel savings program.
  • Drivers should keep up with maintenance on their cars, according to AAA>
  • Georgians might want to combine their errands into one trip to save fuel.
  • The association encourages drivers to slow down. Speeding and aggressive driving could cause someone to burn fuel quicker.
