Two separate crashes cause backup on I-285 West

The first one happened near Flat Shoals Road while the second happened at Jonesboro Road.

DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — UPDATE: GDOT reports as of 9:05 a.m. that only one lane is now blocked in the south DeKalb crash.

In a second, separate crash affecting I-285 West just a few miles down the road, two lanes were blocked as of 9:10 a.m. at Jonesboro Road.

A crash has closed lanes on I-285 West in south DeKalb County on Friday morning, including a closure of all lanes for a period.

According to the Georgia Department of Transportation, it happened past Flat Shoals Road/Candler Road.

Traffic cameras appeared to show an overturned vehicle was involved. It was not clear if there were serious injuries in the crash.

The traffic cameras showed traffic building up as far back as I-20.

"There is a crash on I-285 West past Flat Shoals Road in Dekalb County with all lanes blocked. Emergency personnel are on scene. Motorists are strongly encouraged to use alternate routes. There is no estimated time of clearance at this time," a GDOT alert said.

How to get around it

You can take Panthersville Road down to Bouldercrest Road and then head back up to I-285, or use I-20 to get off at Flat Shoals Road, then take that to Clifton Church Road and Bouldercrest Road to get back on I-285 heading west.
