GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. — Gwinnett Police confirmed, Friday night, they were investigating a serious crash on I-85 near Jimmy Carter Boulevard.

The crash happened in the last several minutes of Friday evening and initially blocked all northbound lanes of the interstate.  Police said it involved three vehicles, one of which was a tractor-trailer. The driver of that vehicle had to be rescued from the wreckage due to entrapment.

The cause of the crash and the conditions of those involved haven't been released.

Drivers were initially told to avoid the area and, if possible, take alternate routes like Buford Highway. At one point, traffic was backed up all the way past I-285 to the south. However, lanes eventually began to clear around 1 a.m.
