Lanes reopen on I-285 at Old National after sinkhole repair

A sinkhole that formed on I-285 has been repaired.

FULTON COUNTY, Ga. — UPDATE | By 10:30 a.m. Thursday the sinkhole repair was complete and the road reopened.

Sinkhole repairs on a major interstate in metro Atlanta have forced the Georgia Department of Transportation to close lanes.

All lanes on westbound I-285 between Old National Highway at exit 62 and Washington Road at exit 1 will be blocked as crews work to repair the sinkhole.

GDOT said drivers headed west will be directed to the Old National Highway collector-distributor ramp at exit 62 and follow the signs for northbound I-285.

The ramp from southbound I-85 to westbound I-285 will be closed. Drivers traveling to southbound I-85 will be directed to take the Old National Road collector-distributor ramp at exit 69.

GDOT is reminding everyone to plan ahead as this will cause delays during the morning commute. To keep track of this and other traffic in metro Atlanta, visit the 11Alive Traffic Page.
