Car overturns in crash with school bus in Marietta

Here is what we know.

MARIETTA, Ga. — Police responded to a crash Thursday afternoon involving a school bus and an SUV.

Marietta Police said they were called to Powder Springs Road and Oregon Trail just after 3:25 p.m. Witnesses told police that a woman driving an SUV entered the center left-turn lane on Powder Springs Street traveling south and was using the turn lane as a travel lane.

According to the Marietta City Schools bus driver, one student was aboard as they were traveling north on Powder Springs Street.

As the bus entered the center turn lane waiting to turn onto Hickory Drive, the bus driver said that she saw the SUV approaching and not appearing to slow down.

The bus driver said they pulled as far to the right within the turn lane as possible in order to avoid being hit head-on, according to police. The approaching SUV sideswiped the stopped bus, causing the SUV to barrel roll, they said.

Authorities said no injuries were life-threatening and that the child on the bus was not hurt.
