Fatal wreck causes major backups on I-285EB at the I-75 exit

Police said the wreck involved a single vehicle.

Multiple lanes were closed following a fatal wreck in Cobb County Friday morning.

Authorities said they were forced to shut down a a ramp and a lane on Interstate 285 northbound at the I-75 exit.

Cobb Police Sgt. Wayne Delk said the wreck involved a single vehicle, but did not have any additional information immediately available regarding the vehicle involved.

Backups that extended beyond South Cobb Drive earlier during the morning have been reduced significantly, but as of 10:45, were still notable between Atlanta Road and the I-75/Cobb Cloverleaf area.

Traffic Tracker Crash Clark advised drivers to use Cobb Parkway as an alternate to I-285 to transition to I-75.

Motorists should be aware, however, that traffic in and around the Cumberland/Galleria area will soon face additional backups tied to the arrival of President Donald Trump and his motorcade's travel from Dobbins ARB to Buckhead.

It is anticipated that the motorcade will use I-75, I-285 and Georgia 400, which will necessitate rolling roadblocks after he arrives in metro Atlanta around the noon hour.
