Overturned box truck crash blocking lanes I-85 S near Jimmy Carter

Two people were transported to the hospital.

ATLANTA – Lanes of I-85 south near Jimmy Carter Boulevard have been reopened after an overturned box truck caused backups earlier in the day.

According to the Georgia State Patrol, the crash happened around 10 a.m. and involved seven vehicles.

It all started after a black Chevrolet Silverado failed to maintain its lane of travel and entered into the Peach Pass lane. A box truck sideswiped the the Silverado, causing it to lose control, hit several vehicles and overturn. Police closed five of the seven lanes while crews worked to clear the crash.

First responders took two people to the hospital to get checked out.

Police took the driver of the pickup truck that caused the crash into custody and charged him with driving while unlicensed and failure to maintain lane.

Another crash happened along the shoulder further up I-85 at Indian Trail Road causing traffic to back up to the Satellite Boulevard exit.
