Lanes reopen after wreck involving multiple tractor trailers, fuel spill shuts down I-85 in Gwinnett

Drivers are encouraged to take Buford Highway as an alternate.

ATLANTA — All lanes of I-85 southbound are back open just before Beaver Ruin Road in Gwinnett County after a wreck involving multiple tractor trailers shut down the highway for more than two hours during the Wednesday morning rush.

It happened before 6 a.m. and one of the vehicles appeared to have slammed into the median.

Gwinnett County Police and Gwinnett Fire were both at the scene. Officers said that there was also a diesel fuel spill as a result of the crash.

Drivers were encouraged to use Satellite Boulevard or Buford Highway as an alternate. Our TrafficTrackers were reporting backups of more than 10 miles.

By 8:15 a.m., all lanes reopened. The Georgia Dept. of Transportation says cleanup may last until 10 a.m.
