Two injured in accident that shut down I-75 in north Atlanta

Police said the accident started when the lead car stopped on the interstate in front of a semi-truck.

ATLANTA -- A large accident in Atlanta that involved a tractor-trailer and several other vehicles was cleared Monday afternoon after causing two significant injuries.

Atlanta police officers responded to the accident around 12 p.m. on I-75 near West Paces Ferry Road. They arrived to find three sedans, an SUV, and a tractor-trailer had been involved in a crash.

Atlanta officer and spokesperson Lisa Bender said a preliminary investigation suggested that a Honda CRV stopped on the interstate and the tractor-trailer swerved to avoid hitting it. The CRV and three other vehicles ended up being hit.

The driver of the CRV was taken to the hospital with head and leg injuries and another driver was taken to the hospital with leg injuries. Both were listed as "alert, conscious and breathing" upon leaving the scene according to Bender.

The accident forced the complete closure of southbound lanes on I-75 for over an hour as crews worked to safely clear the scene.
