UGA student dies after early morning single-vehicle crash

Athens-Clarke County Police said this is the second fatal crash in the county this year.

ATHENS, Ga. — An 18-year-old college student died after a car accident in Athens-Clarke County, police said.

Martell Rashea Robinson, a University of Georgia student, died from his injuries, according to Athens-Clarke County Police.

Officers went to the intersection of Pulaski Street and West Broad Street to respond to the single-vehicle crash around 5:45 a.m.

According to police, Robinson was headed south in his 2000 Toyota Camry on Pulaski Street approaching West Broad Street. When the driver, didn't stop at the intersection, he hit a rock retaining wall at the southern end of the intersection.

The driver - who police said was not restrained - was the only person inside of the vehicle. He was taken to the hospital were he later died.

Authorities said Robinson is from Columbus, Georgia. 

Contributing factors to the crash are still under investigation.
