Travelers pack out Atlanta airport ahead of July Fourth weekend

Here's what you need to know if you're heading out of town.

ATLANTA — Travelers are packing out Atlanta's airport early Friday morning at pre-pandemic levels, looking to get away for the Fourth of July weekend.

The good news for those on their way to a flight is that, for the most part, operations seem to be humming efficiently.

11Alive's Chenue Her is at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport and reports few cancellations or delays showing up on flight boards.

But there are still the lines to navigate, and they're building up early:

According to tsawaittimes.com, a tracking site for airport security waiting times, the 7am-8am hour can be expected to be one of the busiest, with potential wait times pushing a half hour.

The hours from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. are expected to be similarly busy.

Chenue's photos from the airport indicate there may even be a bit more volume for travelers to navigate than those projections suggest.

Folks on their way to a flight are advised to get to the airport about two hours early so they can comfortably navigate the waits at check-in and security.

Masks are also required both for getting around inside the airport and while on your flight.
