Severe Thunderstorm Warnings issued east of Atlanta

ATLANTA — 11Alive is tracking afternoon and evening storms moving through parts of metro Atlanta and Georgia on Sunday.

The storms are capable of generating severe weather in some places. Check back for updates as the storms move through. We'll provide major updates as they become available.

Sunday, Aug. 9, 2020

10:19 p.m. | Severe thunderstorms were located along a line extending from near the town of Buckhead in Morgan County to near Rock Eagle 4-H Center to near Shady Dale to Farrar. The storm is moving south at 5 mph. The national weather service warns the region should expect 60 mph winds and penny-sized hail. Also expect damage to roofs, siding and trees.

9:56 p.m. | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Jasper, Morgan and Putnam counties until 10:30 p.m.

9:45 p.m. | The National Weather Service has updated a Severe Thunderstorm Warning, canceling it for Newton nad Walton counties but continuing it for Jasper, Morgan and Putnam until 10 p.m. The storm is capable of 60 mph winds and up to an inch in diameter.

9:35 p.m. | The 911 Call Center in Morgan County reports thunderstorm wind damage with power lines down across the road on Bostwick Road at Sandy Creek Road.

9:25 p.m. | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Jasper, Morgan, Newton, Putnam and Walton counties until 10 p.m.

9:11 p.m. | Meteorologist Chris Holcomb captured video of lighting in a towering cumulonimbus cloud in the direction of Walton County from Gwinnett County.

9:10 p.m. | The 911 Call Center in Walton County has received reports of thunderstorm wind damage with a tree down on Clegg Farm Road.

9:04 p.m. | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Walton County until 9:45 p.m. The storm is capable of 60 mph winds and hail of up to an inch in diameter.

8:56 p.m. | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Morgan, Newton and Walton counties until 9:30 p.m.

7:10 p.m. | The Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Clayton, DeKalb, Fulton and Henry counties has been expired.

6:48 p.m. | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for parts of Clayton, DeKalb, Fulton, and Henry counties until 7:15. The storm is capable of winds up to 60 mph and hail of up to just shy of an inch in diameter.
