Severe Thunderstorm warning issued in east Georgia as rains move through

We're tracking severe storms as they move into metro Atlanta and northwest Georgia on this Friday afternoon. Below, we'll keep a live blog to let you know when rough weather arrives and what impact it's having on the region.

Friday, Aug. 23, 2019

7:06 PM | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Jefferson and Washington counties until 7:45 p.m.

6:37 PM | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Clarke, Jackson, Madison, Oconee and Oglethorpe counties until 7:15 p.m.

6:18 PM | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Greene, Morgan, Oconee and Oglethorpe counties until 7:00 p.m. At 6:17 p.m., a severe thunderstorm was located over Bostwick about 8 miles south of Watkinsville. It was moving northeast at about 10 mph. 

The storm is capable of 60 mph winds that can damage roofs siding and trees and quarter-sized hail that will likely damage vehicles.

6:03 PM | The Flash Flood Warning for Pickens and Dawson counties has been canceled.

5:02 PM | A Flash Flood Warning has been issued for Pickens and Dawson counties until 11 p.m.

Major rain moves through Cherokee County on Aug. 23, 2019

3:14 PM | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Catoosa, Walker and Whitfield counties until 4:30 p.m.

3:15 PM | A severe thunderstorm warning has been issued for Bartow, Floyd and Gordon counties until 4 p.m. At 3:13 p.m. a severe thunderstorm was located near Everett Springs about 10 miles southwest of Calhoun, Georgia. It was moving northeast at about 10 mph.

The storm could potentially have winds of up to 60 mph along with quarter-size hail.  Hail is expected to damage vehicles and wind is likely to damage, roofs, siding and trees.
