LIVE UPDATES: Severe Thunderstorm Watch shrinks to 49 counties

We're tracking a line of storms moving through our area.

ATLANTA — Showers and storms are rolling through Georgia yet again today as a large severe thunderstorm watch covers much of Georgia and warnings pop up in different parts of the state.

5 p.m.: Severe Thunderstorm Watch further shrinks to 45 counties removing Butts, Clarke, Henry, Lamar, Madison, Meriwether, Morgan, Newton, Oconee, Oglethorpe, Pike, Rockdale, Spalding and Walton counties. The watch continues for the rest until 10 p.m.

4:26 p.m.: The National Weather Service has expired a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Greene and Hancock counties.

4:21 p.m.: The National Weather Service has removed 19 counties from a Severe Thunderstorm Watch but 59 remain until 10 p.m.

4:14 p.m.: A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Baldwin, Bibb, Jones, Monroe, Twiggs and Wilkinson counties until 5 p.m.

4:12 p.m.: The Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been canceled in Putnam County but continues in Greene and Hancock counties until 4:30 p.m. Storms are capable of 1.25-inch hail and 60 mph winds.

4:11 p.m.: The Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Baldwin, Jasper, Jones and Putnam counties has been canceled.

4:08 p.m.: 11Alive's Wes Peery looking at signs the severe weather threat is going down in north Georgia.

4:05 p.m.: 70 mph wind gusts possible with the storm moving north of Macon!

3:58 p.m.: The Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been canceled for Pike County. Storms possible of 60 mph winds and 1-inch hail are still possible in Bibb, Jones, Lamar, Monroe and Upson counties until 4:15 p.m.

3:55 p.m.: The Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been canceled for Morgan County. Storms possible of 60 mph wind and 1.25-inch hail are still possible in Greene, Hancock and Putnam counties until 4:30 p.m.

3:52 p.m.: Two storms south of metro Atlanta hit the area with significant lightning.

3:51 p.m.: The National Weather Service has canceled a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Clayton and Henry counties.

3:50 p.m.: The National Weather Service has canceled a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Monroe County. Storms capable of 60 mph winds and 1.5-inch are still possible in Baldwin, Jasper, Jones and Putnam counties until 4:30 p.m.

3:47 p.m.: The National Weather Service has canceled a Severe Thunderstorm warning for Fayette County. Storms possible of 60 mph winds and .75 inch hail are still possible in Clayton and Henry counties until 4:15 p.m.

3:45 p.m.: A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Greene, Hancock, Morgan and Putnam counties until 4:30 p.m.

3:45 p.m.: A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Bibb, Jones, Lamar, Monroe, Pike and Upson counties until 4:15 p.m.

3:44 p.m.: Big storm hitting Baldwin, Jasper, Jones and Monroe counties is capable of dropping half-dollar-sized hail!

3:39 p.m.: A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Baldwin, Jasper, Jones, Monroe and Putnam counties until 4:30 p.m.

3:33 p.m.: A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Clayton, Fayette and Henry counties until 4:15 p.m.

3:24 p.m.: A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Lamar, Monroe, Pike and Upson counties until 3:45 p.m.

3:06 p.m. Severe thunderstorm warning canceled for Troup County. Storms capable of 60 mph and hail of up to an inch continue in Meriwether, Pike and Upson counties until 3:30 p.m.

3:03 p.m.: Severe thunderstorm warning canceled for Clarke and Madison Georgia. Storms capable of 60 mph winds and .88 inch hail continue in Oglethorpe and Wilkes until 3:30 p.m.

2:48 p.m.: The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Meriwether, Pike, Troup and Upson counties until 3:30 p.m.

2:42 p.m.: The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning for Clarke, Madison, Oglethorpe and Wilkes counties until 3:30 p.m.

2:40 p.m.: Dark clouds loom over Carrollton as a storm approaches.

2:17 p.m.: Depending on where you are in Georgia, you're seeing very different skies above you as our cameras around metro Atlanta, north Georgia and east Georgia show.

2:10 p.m.: Rain inundates a parking lot in Marietta as storms roar through Georgia.

2:04 p.m.: Storms in Georgia could bring small hail as they move through some west Georgia counties and parts of Alabama.

1:42 p.m.: A severe thunderstorm watch has been issued for several counties in metro Atlanta and much of the state until 10 p.m. Storms will be capable of producing damaging wind gusts, large hail and a brief tornado.

12:13 p.m.: A severe thunderstorm watch will likely be issued for the area outlined in yellow by 1 p.m. 

11:55 a.m.: 11Alive StormTracker Lisa Renee Ostrander captured these clouds moving over Monroe, Georgia.

After 7:30 a.m.: In Cherokee County, a tree fell on power lines near Rowe Rd. and a transformer fire was reported near Ashley Hall off Batesville Rd. A large tree is blocking the road on Upper Bethany Rd near Old Damascus Rd.

Trees and power lines were reported down in Jasper, one near Parker Rd., another on Henderson Mountian Rd., and a third on Salem Church Rd.  

A few trees are also down just north of Cedartown in Floyd County.

After 7 a.m.: The storm is moving northeast as it weakens and its southern end could bring strong rain over parts of Paulding County and northeast Cobb County further into the morning. 

As the northern end of the storm line pushes up, it could cross over areas including Lumpkin County and Dawson County after 7.a.m.

6:30 a.m.: Warning issued for Pickens and Gordon counties, including Jasper, Talking Rock and Fairmount. Warning extended in northeast Bartow County.

Warning in effect until 7 a.m.

Follow the storm's path on our radar

6 a.m.: Warning extended to Bartow County, including Adairsville and White. Warning extended in northeast Floyd County.

Warning in effect until 6:45 a.m.

5:30 a.m.: Severe thunderstorm warning issued for Walker and Dade counties, including Fairview, Rossville and Trenton in far northwest Georgia.

Warning also issued for Floyd and Chattooga counties, including Rome, Summerville and Lindale.

Warnings in effect until 6:15 a.m.

Late afternoon

11Alive meteorologist Chesley McNeil says another line of storm pockets could form in the area after 3 p.m.

Outlook

The region is at risk for winds up to 60 mph and a small chance of hail in areas.

11Alive has received reports of downed trees in areas like Rome where the storm has already passed.

As the broader storm system moves east and north, parts of South Carolina and northeast Georgia could have a very slight chance (2 percent) of tornadoes, according to the National Weather Service.

The storm system will move east over the Carolinas and begin to soften over north Georgia later in the evening and into Friday, according to the National Weather Service's outlook.
