EF-0 tornado touches down in Woodstock producing 80 mph winds, NWS confirms

WOODSTOCK, Ga. — An EF-0 tornado touched down in Cherokee County early Saturday morning, the National Weather Service confirmed.

In its preliminary report, surveyors said the tornado spun up in Woodstock at 7:35 a.m. and ended at 7:38 a.m., reaching maximum winds of 80 miles per hour and the tornado tracked 2.5 miles with a width of 75 yards.

Authorities said trees were snapped by the powerful winds, but overall there was very minor damage in the area.

One driver told 11Alive they were inside their car on I-575 when their vehicle was turned around on the highway before the powerful winds caused the hood to flip up and smash their window.

It began in northwest Woodstock on Dream Catcher Drive and ended its path in Lebanon.

Fortunately, there were no injuries reported.

What is an EF-0 tornado rating?

An EF-0 is the weakest possible rating for a tornado, with winds between 65 and 85 miles per hour.
