Gov. Kemp issues state of emergency for storm damage

This frees up public funds to help citizens apply for funds to help in the event of damage to their property.

ATLANTA — Gov. Brian Kemp issued a state of emergency for the entire state Monday morning as a result of the storm damage from Sunday night and Monday morning's storm.

"Due to extensive damage, Georgia's network of roads and bridges may be impassable, isolating residences and persons from access to essential public services," the order said in part. "Assistance from the State is necessary to provide for the public's safety, protect private property, and restore the social and economic welfare of the affected counties."

The executive order freed up financial assistance from the state to provide for additional resources for citizens from GEMA as a result of the damage.

The order covers the entire state, but does not supersede the ongoing state of emergency tied to the COVID-19 public health state of emergency.

Kemp was en route to Murray County to survey the damage, according to a Tweet.

HOW DO YOU REPORT STORM DAMAGE TO YOUR PROPERTY?

If you have damage to your property, officials from the Georgia Emergency Management and Homeland Security Agency (GEMA) ask that you take photographs of the damage and submit them, along with the following form to GEMA in order to have it verified.

Residential, commercial and public buildings are all eligible to be assessed by GEMA under the guidelines for this assessment.

You are also asked to visit GEMA's Public Assistance page for more information regarding public assistance, along with the FEMA Individual Assistance Web Page for information regarding individual assistance following a natural or man-made disaster.

Of course, following this, you would need to contact your own insurance company to have their assessor visit your property for appropriate documentation under your appropriate policy.
