Severe thunderstorm warnings move south of metro Atlanta

ATLANTA — The 11Alive StormTrackers are monitoring an area of storms that may reach strong to severe levels Monday afternoon or evening across parts of north Georgia.

11Alive Meteorologist Chesley McNeil said that parts of the North Georgia Mountains have been placed under a Level 1 out of 5 risk area for severe weather for Monday.

However, strong storms are possible over the entire region. The primary threats from any storms that develop include gusty winds, heavy rainfall and frequent, vivid lightning.

5:58 pm | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Meriwether and Troup counties until 6:45 p.m.

5:49 pm | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Harris and Meriwether counties until 6:15 p.m.

5:11 pm | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Troup, Coweta, Heard and Meriwether counties until 6 p.m.

3:46 pm | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for parts of Rockdale, Henry, Butts, Jasper and Newton counties until 4:30 pm. The severe thunderstorm was located over Magnet, moving southeast at 30 mph. 

3:45 pm | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for Monroe County until 4:30 pm. 

3:22 pm | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for parts of Rockdale, Dekalb, Henry, Fulton and Clayton counties until 4 pm. 

At 3:22 pm, a severe thunderstorm was located over Gresham Park, or near Decatur, moving southeast at 20 mph. 

3:22 pm | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for parts of Hancock, Greene and Taliaferro counties until 4 pm. 

2:54 pm | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for parts of Cherokee, DeKalb, Forsyth, Cobb, Gwinnett, Hall and Fulton counties until 3:45 pm. 

At 2:53 pm, severe thunderstorms were located along a line from Woodstock to Cumming and Chestatee, moving southeast at 45 mph. 

Wind gusts to 60 mph and nickel-sized hail are expected with these storms.

1:15 pm | A Severe Thunderstorm Warning has been issued for parts of Murray and Whitfield counties until 1:45 pm. 

At 1:11 pm, a severe thunderstorm was located near Dawnville, or near Chatsworth, moving southeast at 15 mph.
