BLUE RIDGE, Ga. — It has been a chilly week since our cold front arrived bringing even a bit up snow from Sunday night into Monday morning for areas north of Atlanta.
While that snow has all melted away by now, another round of flurries and light snow is possible. This will occur mainly in far North Georgia from Thursday afternoon into the evening hours.
With the possibility for snow and a wintry mix, the National Weather Service in Peachtree City has issued a winter weather advisory through Thursday evening for the most northern counties in Georgia. Less than one inch of snow is possible.
Most of the state, including Atlanta, will miss out on the snow Thursday and just see rain as the front moves through.
The precipitation starts to move into the region during the early afternoon hours on Thursday.
The possible wintry mix brushes across the northern tier of the state through the evening commute hours. This is also the time where Atlanta could experience some heavier rainfall.
By the early evening hours on Thursday, snow and rain will come to an end with colder air moving into the region.
While we can be thankful there is no severe weather associated with this system, we need to be ready for the very cold air mass moving in behind the rain and snow.
Temperatures will fall to the 20s Thursday night with wind chills in the teens. This may lead to black ice in some isolated spots that don't dry before the temperatures plummet. Drivers will want to use extra caution late Thursday night into Friday morning.
With temperatures falling into the 20s, this will be the coldest air mass to move across North Georgia since February of 2021. Be sure to plan for the colder weather by taking extra care of people, pets, plants and pipes ahead of Thursday night.
