ATLANTA -- Strong thunderstorms with a chance for isolated severe storms are possible across parts of metro Atlanta and north Georgia this evening ahead of a cold front that will dry things out for several days.

TODAY

11Alive's Chief Meteorologist Chris Holcomb says there is a 50 percent chance of showers and storms yet this evening with some isolated severe storms possible. Storms will most likely develop through early evening with dimished activity through the late evening hours.

This activity is expected ahead of a cold front that is expected to bring lower humidity and drier air across north Georgia.

The SPC has the Metro Atlanta Area and the rest of Northeast Georgia and Central Georgia under a marginal risk of severe storms Tuesday. That's level 1 out of 5. The primary threat from any thunderstorms that develop across the area will include gusty winds from possible microbursts, frequent lightning and heavy rains that may cause brief, localized flooding in some areas.

Persons should remain alert for possible flash flooding situations that may force the closing of roadways or flooding of low-lying areas. Also, weakened trees may fall with little or no warning during or immediately after thunderstorms.

Conditions will improve later tonight with drier air returning for Wednesday and Thursday.
