TIMELINE | Sunday looks to bring even more strong to severe storms to north Georgia

It won't quite be a carbon copy of Saturday, but more heavy weather appears headed for the region.

ATLANTA — An ongoing weather pattern will bring the possibility of strong to severe thunderstorms to north Georgia once again on Sunday, according to 11Alive meteorologist Wes Peery.

On Saturday, strong storms moved through metro Atlanta, with some minor damage reports. High winds and up to quarter-sized hail pushed through with some of the storms. No injuries were reported with any of those storms.

Scattered showers and storms are expected, mainly in the afternoon and evening hours. As a result, the National Weather Service Storm Prediction Center has placed nearly the entire state of Georgia under a Marginal Risk area -- a level 1 out of 5 -- for severe weather for Sunday.

According to Wes, with the northwest-to-southeast flow of storm systems across the United States, we are in a pattern that sets up storms on an ongoing basis.

Many of the storms that develop, as a result, end up approaching severe limits. In many cases, the storms usually die out well after dark, once the heating of the day removes much of the energy from the storms.

Sunday looks to provide no exception to the pattern, with more storms on the way.

The primary threat from any storms that develop on Sunday across the region will be damaging wind gusts, locally heavy rainfall and frequent, vivid lightning strikes.

EVENING

After 6 p.m., the remaining showers and storms are likely to shift south and eastward, moving more toward the Macon and Augusta areas before diminishing in strength completely.

Wes says that more isolated to scattered storms are expected on Monday through at least Friday of this week, with the highest likelihood for strong to severe storms coming on Monday, though any of the storms that develop have the potential to develop into strong to severe thunderstorms.
