Wet roads after soggy morning around Atlanta

Watch out during the morning commute.

ATLANTA — A rainy morning in the Atlanta area is leaving roads wet as the morning commute picks up.

Rain clouds moved over north Georgia, particularly in the early hours of Tuesday, and have a roughly 40 percent chance of continuing through the 7 o’clock hour.

The rain should taper off from 8 a.m. to about 10 a.m., when chances pick up for late morning and early afternoon showers and thunderstorms. There’s about a 70 percent chance for rain and lightning from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.

In the meantime, watch out for the after-effects of the morning’s soggy conditions as you make your way to work, with flooding on a number of metro area roadways.

Some of the trouble spots so far have included I-75 southbound after Marietta Parkway and GA-400 southbound at Mansell Road, and wrecks slowly building delays from Vinings to Sandy Springs at the I-285 eastbound ramp to I-75 northbound.

Traffic cams also showed a wreck at I-285 eastbound at the Chattahoochee River, as well as at I-285 northbound before I-20 on the West Side.
