Wet weather pattern brings memories of soggy 2018, flooding

Temperatures will be very warm for February standards over the next few days.

Memories of a soggy 2018 will be revisited over the next week or so as a weather pattern sets up that will deliver persistent showers and warm temperatures.

This is all thanks to the way the jet stream will position itself and dig far south of us, delivering tropical moisture into the southeast -- about twice the normal amount of moisture for February.

This means the rain showers may be especially heavy, since there is so much moisture to turn into rainfall. Rain showers may be especially efficient in north Georgia, as the mountains help to produce even more rainfall.

This idea matches up relatively well in the latest 7-day rainfall forecast.

North Georgia looks to be in the best spot to get the most rainfall over the next week with some isolated spots possibly getting up to 10 inches of rainfall. The mountainous terrain makes far north Georgia most susceptible to flooding, too.

Even next weekend, additional inches of rainfall are possible as this pattern persists.

As rain showers begin Friday evening, this will likely prime the ground for flooding as rain becomes more widespread next week. If you live in flood-prone areas, be on the lookout for flood watches and warnings next week.

There is somewhat of a silver lining to the cloudy days. Temperatures will be very warm, running several degrees above the average high on most days.

The warm overnight lows will be most pronounced, average lows in February are in the upper 30s while forecast lows are in the upper 40s to middle 50s.

We'll keep you updated with the latest information as this threat for severe weather increases.
