Wind, heavy rain causing damage in metro Atlanta area

There has not been a severe thunderstorm warning issued in the area yet.

ATLANTA — Rain and wind is causing damages in the metro Atlanta area on Wednesday.

Multiple counties in the area are now under a severe thunderstorm warning, with wet and breezy conditions impacting the region.

11Alive's Melissa Nord said heavy rain, lightning, wind gusts up to 40 mph, and some small hail may accompany the storms on the east side of the metro.

According to Georgia Power, just over 900 customers are experiencing power outages in DeKalb County. The agency says they're assessing the conditions of the outage, and will provide updates as details become available. Right now, there's not estimated time when power will come back for those customers.

You can check for power outages in your area using the Georgia Power outage map online.

A neighbor tells 11Alive an uprooted tree came down during the wet weather on United Avenue at the Beltline crossing in the Grant Park and Boulevard Heights area.

11 Alive Community Stormtracker sent a photo of the tree, which is seen blocking the roadway.
