UPDATE: The advisory expired at 3 a.m. on Wednesday. The National Weather Service still advises that you drive cautiously, as there may be patchy black ice and slick spots in far north Georgia through the mid-morning.
Original story below
As precipitation continues to fall, the National Weather Service has now issued a Winter Weather Advisory for parts of northwest Georgia.
Here's a list of the counties included: Catoosa, Chattooga, Dade, Dawson, Fannin, Gilmer, Gordon, Lumpkin, Murray, Pickens, Towns, Union, Walker, White, and Whitfield.
This is in effect until 5 a.m. Wednesday.
The NWS said snowfall accumulations at elevations between 1,000 feet and 2,000 feet will range from a tenth of an inch up to half an inch, mainly in grassy areas. At elevations above 2,000 feet, locally higher amounts up to one inch are possible.
Although snow may not accumulate on roadways at lower elevations, with overnight temperatures in the upper 20s, patchy black ice will be likely - especially on bridges and overpasses.
Drivers will need to slow down and use caution.
The rain will move out early Wednesday morning as the cold air starts moving in. Read more about the forecast here.
