First black-owned beauty supply store opens in East Point

Amber Bunch, her sister Salathia Brittian, and their mother, Rosalind Powell, are the proud owners of Sheer Haven Hair.

EAST POINT, Ga. — “We’ve had some people come in and ask if the owners are here. They always seem surprised when we say ‘We’re the owners,” Amber Bunch said with a smile.

Bunch, her sister Salathia Brittian, and their mother, Rosalind Powell, are the proud owners of Sheer Haven Hair in East Point.

The beauty supply store located on Washington Road in East Point, is the first and only black-owned beauty supply store in the area.

Brittian added, “We all know that the beauty supply market is usually run by other nationalities,”

According to a recent study by the Black Owned Beauty Supply association, out of more than 35,000 beauty-supply stores in the United States, about 2,500 are black-owned.

“It makes me feel good knowing that this is black owned,” said customer Jalisa D. “knowing that my people can do more.”

Though the store just opened its doors last week, the family is excited about the steady flow of business they’ve received so far.

“We knew the business would come, and the community would support as long as we did our part. And we’re planning on doing that,” said Bunch.
