SANDY SPRINGS, Ga. -- A school bus caught fire after a Thursday morning crash on Roswell Road and Glenridge Drive. It happened just inside the perimeter right outside the Atlanta city line.

A spokesperson for the Sandy Springs Fire Department said all students were evacuated and another bus arrived to take them to school.

The bus was carrying Ridgeview Middle School students and was rear-ended, according to a Fulton County Schools communication official.

A spokesman for Sandy Springs Police said the driver of a 4-door blue car side-swiped another bus before crashing into the second bus and catching fire. The fuel tank was ruptured on that bus and caught fire.

The driver of the car was taken to Northside Hospital with possible of back and neck injuries, and was later issued charges related to the collision.

"The car that hit the bus caught on fire and may have caught the bus on fire as well," the representative said.

Roswell Road was shut down after the crash.

A Children's Healthcare of Atlanta representative said 18 children were transported to Scottish Rite. Of the group, one is in fair condition and the other 17 are listed in good condition. Police said 25 kids were taken to school and 4 students were picked up by parents.

The bus drivers were not injured.

11Alive Traffic Tracker Crash Clark said the backup started building within minutes of the 8:25 911 call.
