DOUGLAS COUNTY, Ga. — The Georgia Bureau of Investigation is looking into a shooting where one person was killed, a deputy was hurt, and others were injured Wednesday morning in Douglas County.
The GBI said that 66-year-old Walter Jackson Sr. died at the scene and three others, including a woman, were hurt in the shooting.
The call for help
Before deputies arrived, one man had been shot, according to the GBI.
And earlier in the day, Douglas County Sheriff's Office said in a news conference that deputies were called to a home on North Bear Drive where a person had been shot. When they arrived, they said they found the victim, a man, in the front yard. He told deputies the person who shot him was inside the home, they said.
However, GBI mentioned in a news release Wednesday night that when Douglas County deputies arrived at the scene, they identified themselves, gave commands, and entered the home. The agency said Jackson was found lying on the kitchen floor and died at the scene. The GBI said it's unclear at this time how the 66-year-old got outside of the home.

Deputy hurt
The GBI said deputies saw a woman holding a baby, who indicated the alleged shooter was in another room. The man was identified as Jonathan Christian Roman, 27.
The GBI said deputies saw Roman and continued to command, “show me your hands.” He allegedly shot a deputy and retreated briefly before emerging and shooting at the deputy again, who was on the ground. Deputies returned fire, hitting Roman, according to the GBI.
Wednesday morning, the sheriff's office said there was also a woman found shot inside the home; GBI confirmed she was taken to Grady but was unsure of how badly she was hurt.
On Thursday, the office said the deputy had been released sometime Wednesday afternoon and was resting at home.
A woman at the scene told 11Alive that Roman was her brother.
"He’s autistic, he’s 27 years old but has the mentality of a 12-year-old," she said.
The deputy and Roman were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries. At last check, both were stable, according to the GBI. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office announced Thursday that the deputy was released Wednesday afternoon.
Alexander High School, Yeager Middle School and Bill Arp Elementary School are all in the area. School system officials said they were placed on lockdown, but all had been lifted before 11 a.m.
Ongoing investigation
The GBI said it will conduct an independent investigation on the shooting. Once complete, the case file will be given to the Douglas County District Attorney’s Office for review.
This is the 84th shooting involving law enforcement that the GBI said it has been requested to investigate this year.
