Lil Nas X becomes first hip-hop artist to win CMA Award for 'Musical Event of the Year'

“LETS GOOOOOOOOO!!!!!” the star shared in a tweet announcing his victory.

ATLANTA — Can’t nobody tell him nothing! Lil Nas X continues his year of winning streaks during this year’s Country Music Association Awards.

Not only was this the first time that Lil Nax X performed at the awards show,  but the night was historic for the artist because he’s the very first hip-hop artist to win the award for Musical Event of the Year, according to Billboard.

“LETS GOOOOOOOOO!!!!!” the star shared in a tweet announcing his victory.

Country music star Billy Ray Cyrus accepted the award with Lil Nas X.

Out also reports that the rapper became the first openly gay performer to take home a CMA award.

“Old Town Road (Remix)” has been a crossover event merging country music with the trap music genre.

The song became a pop hit for various audiences, and broke Mariah Carey and Boyz II Men's  record for the longest running No. 1 single on the Billboard Hot 100.

Billboard pulled it from the chart in March, when the magazine called it more of a rap song than a country song.

Lil Nas X is a native of Lithia Springs, Georgia, and worked locally at Zaxby's and Six Flags before he became a full-time musician.

Hill, a proud Georgia resident, returned to his educational roots at Lithia Springs High School. He graduated back in 2017.

Before the school year started, Douglas County Schools gave the star a major shout out by sharing his yearbook photo on social media.

“Old Town Road is hot and keeps getting hotter,” Douglas County Schools wrote in the post.
