MARIETTA, Ga. — A young boy was found dead after being reported missing by his mother Wednesday afternoon.

The 3-year-old boy went missing inside their apartment complex in the 1200 block of Powder Springs Street. The 911 call came in just after 3:00 p.m. and by 3:38, the child was found in Reeves Lake near the shore, according to Marietta Police Department.

“I just saw the cops pull in pretty heavily. As soon as he got out of the car he just started running, pretty frantically, so I thought they were chasing somebody,” Matt Sanspree, a resident at the apartment complex said.

Marietta Fire and Rescue responded to the scene and assisted until the ambulance arrived.

“It doesn’t matter how outwardly tough someone in this uniform looks, the minute you bring a child into the equation it changes everything,” Officer Chuck McPhilamy with Marietta Police said.

The young boy was transported to Kennestone Hospital where doctors pronounced him dead.

McPhilamy said they do not know if there will be charges in this case. Right now, the incident is under investigation.

“We don’t know if there was foul play," McPhilamy said. "That will all come out in an investigation.”
