The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has been brought in to lead the investigation of an officer-involved shooting early Sunday morning in the Pittsburgh neighborhood of Atlanta.

As many as four Atlanta Police officers may have fired at a man who pointed his weapon at them shortly before 5 a.m. in the 1000 block of Metropolitan Parkway.

Investigators said a short time earlier, the man had used the same weapon to threaten his family at a nearby home.

According to the GBI, officers responded to the home at 4:37 a.m., after receiving a 911 call saying a family member had pointed a gun at them.

When officers responded to the home on a domestic abuse call, they discovered that the man had already left. Investigators said none of the family members had been injured by the man before he left the home.

After officers left the home, they encountered the suspect, later identified as 33-year-old Jeremiah Perdue. Atlanta Police Captain David Villaroel said that the officers fired at Perdue, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

A preliminary GBI report indicates that a weapon was found near Perdue's body and appeared to have been fired.

Villaroel said it was not clear if the Perdue was under the influence of any drugs or alcohol. A full toxicology screening will be performed as a part of the GBI's investigation.

The shooting took place about two blocks from the home where the initial domestic abuse call took place.

After the GBI completes their independent investigation, it will be turned over to the Fulton County District Attorney's office for review.
