DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — The statewide shelter-in-place order has caused everyone to make adjustments with many hitting pause on daily functions and activities, including Georgia schools.
Students in Georgia's K-12 public schools are finishing up their school year with online learning. When a DeKalb County elementary school dance had to be canceled due to the coronavirus, teachers and staff refused to stop the music.
"We're having a virtual school dance for the little ones, we are celebrating their hard work during virtual learning," Teacher Al Danso said during the Instagram Live.
In the video, you see him subbing as a DJ for Oak View Elementary's Virtual School Dance.
Danso said there was a dance planned last month, but it was canceled due to COVID-19.
Instead, he and Principal Sabrina Pressley teamed up to host an hour-long digital dance on Instagram Live.
"It let them know that the school still loved them. School is more than just books and paper. It's the relationships, the smiles, the happiness and the celebration. And I'm hoping we brought that to the kids," he said.
Danso said the students loved the dance so much, they're requesting another live virtual party in the weeks to come.
