DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. — DeKalb County officials confirm a man found dead at a gas station Wednesday morning died as a result of blunt force trauma.
The body of 34-year-old William Stewart was discovered at a BP gas station in DeKalb County off Panola Road by his ex-wife.
"Right now this is being investigated as a murder," DeKalb Police spokesman Spencer Jacques said.
In a police report obtained by 11Alive, a woman called 911 just before 7 a.m. to report her ex-husband, Stewart, missing. She said she got a call from him stating he was leaving work. Later that morning, she reportedly tracked his phone, which showed it was stationary at the gas station location.
When she arrived at the gas station, she saw blood on Stewart, called 911 and ran inside for help, according to the police report. That is when she asked a Fulton County sheriff's deputy, who happened to be at that location, for help.
Because the on-scene examination was inconclusive, further examination at the medical examiner's office determined the cause of death to be a homicide, Jacques said.
No further information was made available.
