Georgia boy spends his spring break reading to his bovine reading buddies

"No Xbox, no phones, no TV – just a boy, a book, a pasture, his cows and his donkeys!"

FORSYTH COUNTY, Ga. — You've probably heard the nursery rhyme about how "the cow jumped over the moon," but have you heard the one where that cow gets nursery rhymes read to him?

11Alive viewer Niki Davis shared photos of her son Chance hanging out with his bovine buddies Larry and Mootilda at their home in Coal Mountain, Georgia

Davis said her Chance has recently started reading to Larry and has since decided to spend his spring break with his new reading buddies.

"Maybe not the traditional reading buddies, but this is how our family likes it in Coal Mountain! Spring Break – no Xbox, no phones, no TV – just a boy, a book, a pasture, his cows and his donkeys," Davis wrote on Facebook.

The mom said it's helped Chance build his confidence in reading.

Davis told 11Alive her family has been rescuing animals for years. Larry was supposed to go to slaughter about six months ago, but her family intercepted him.

"You think you are rescuing them, but many times they rescue us," she said.

"He's now our pasture baby," she joked.

By the way, Davis said Larry was wearing Chance's hat because he was "having a bad hair day."
