Golfer Russell Henley welcomes newborn son Masters week

We chatted with folks on how they think Henley will handle fatherhood.

Tuesday, PGA golfer Russell Henley and his wife welcomed their first child into the world -- a little boy.

We chatted with folks that knew Henley as a youngster and got their thoughts on Henley as a dad.

As a teenager, Russell Henley spent many a day at Idle Hour and learning from PGA professional Ray Cutright.

Now Henley is set to trot out on the biggest stage in his fifth Masters, but his first as a new father.

"He'll have his son on his mind, but Russell's a true athlete and he will focus when he needs to focus, and I think everything that's happened these few days will be a plus for him," Cutright said.

At Stratford Academy, Henley put a few trophies in the case. In fact, the Eagles inducted him into their hall of fame.

Patsy Hayslip taught the young golfer.

"Russell is going to be the best dad. He is the most kind, compassionate, fun-loving, sweet man," she gushed.

Now Hayslip has her sights set on a special gift.

"Last night, I was thinking if I could find a little itty-bitty green jacket somewhere, I would send that to him as a baby present," she said with a smile.

Cater Pierce is the golf coach and figures Henley's laidback approach will serve him well on the course and at home.

" He's so even-keeled, so let's say the little boy did a little boy thing and got in trouble -- I just think Russell would handle it with an even keel and handle it, you know, in a way a father should handle it," Pierce said.

Along with his new son, Henley hopes to also welcome into the family his first green jacket from Augusta.
