Grandson arrested, 'person of interest' in grandmother's disappearance

The DeKalb County Police have arrested the man they believe had something to do with his grandmother's "suspicious" disappearance.

DECATUR, Ga. -- The DeKalb County Police have arrested the man they believe had something to do with his grandmother's "suspicious" disappearance.

Gregory Williams, 37, was arrested Thursday at the Kroger, located at the intersection of Flakes Mill and Flat Shoals Parkway just before 1 p.m., after police spotted him inside his grandmother, Millicent Williams' car, a 2014 Toyota Corolla in the parking lot, DeKalb County Police Lt. Lonzy Robertson said.

Williams was charged with aggravated assault, kidnapping and theft by taking vehicle, and is a person of interest in her disappearance.

Police searched Millicent's Decatur home, located on Brookgreen Point, where they believe the 78-year-old was the victim of foul play, after finding blood inside.

"We saw signs of a struggle at the scene, so, that raised our suspicions--and that forced us to act," Capt. J.A. Lewis, of the major crimes unit, said.

Police spent the morning and afternoon on the scene of her home with K-9 units searching for her, as well as in Flat Shoals Park, at 4522 Flat Shoals Pkwy.

Millicent -- known to her neighbors as Millie -- is still missing. She has gray hair and brown eyes, and was last seen on Sunday, Robertson said, her family reported to police.

Gregory has not told police where his grandmother is located and was moved from the police department to the DeKalb County Jail just before 4:30 p.m., in hand cuffs, ankle restraints and an orange, paper-thin jumpsuit.

Neighbors told 11Alive's Duffie Dixon that Gregory was a military veteran who was never the same once he got out. Over the years, they said, he had several outbursts in front of the home and in the street.

"He's like in the driveway yelling, on his knees, praying, laying out flat. Things of that nature," one neighbor, Louis Weller, said.

Whatever Gregory did or didn't tell detectives, investigators believe Millicent may still be alive. The investigation and search for her is ongoing.

If you have any information about her whereabouts, call 911 or the DeKalb County Police at (678) 406-7929.
