Griffin apartment fire spreads to several units

About 10 units caught fire.

GRIFFIN, Ga. -- Nearly 50 people have been forced out of their homes after an apartment fire in Spalding County, Wednesday.

According to authorities, the fire at Northside Hills Apartments was reported around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday. Eleven units caught fire. Both the Spalding County and Griffin fire departments responded.

Spaulding County Fire Department Chief Jamie Clark said more than two dozen firefights worked to put out the flames. No injuries were reported and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.

The American Red Cross has met with the residents impacted by the fire to provide for lodging, food, clothing, toiletries, replacement medications and emotional support.

The organization intends to continue following up with the families in the coming days.
