It happened on Lexington Avenue where volunteers provided comfort kits and recovery planning. Volunteers also said they assisted three families in the fire.

GRIFFIN, Ga. — A house fire broke out in Griffin early Monday morning, causing almost a dozen residents to be displaced and injuring a firefighter, according to fire officials.

Firefighters arrived at the home on 220 Lexington Avenue just around 10:57 a.m. When they got there, they found heavy fire, smoke and a collapsed roof coming from the home.

Personnel controlled the fire while inside the home.

Additionally, officials reported that a firefighter got injured after they put out the fire. The firefighter had a fracture in his lower leg after the stairs failed while exiting the home. The firefighter is now recovering at home after officials took him to a local hospital.

Fire officials are still investigating the incident but have ruled the fire as accidental. They also considered the home a “total loss.”

American Red Cross volunteers provided comfort kits and recovery planning. Volunteers also said they assisted three families in the fire.
