HOGANSVILLE, Ga. — A fire at a home in Troup County left one man dead Friday night, police said.

Hogansville Police Chief Jeff Sheppard told 11Alive the fire happened at a house along Church Street around 6:50 p.m. The home was fully engulfed in the blaze, which even caught the car next to the home on fire as well, Sheppard said.

On Sunday, fire officials noted that hazards from the rapidly increasing fire and obstacles inside the home hampered search efforts.

It was only after the flames were controlled that firefighters discovered the body of the victim inside what they believed was a bedroom.

His identification has not been released at this time.

The fire has now been put out, but Hogansville Police say the block of Church Street between Greenough Street and Granite Street has been closed.

It's not yet known how the fire started or when access to the street will resume.
