Remains found in Cobb believed to be those of missing vet, friend charged

The friend of a veteran who has been missing for several years has agreed to turn himself in after police found human remains buried behind a home where he used to live.

COBB COUNTY, Ga. -- The friend of a veteran who has been missing for several years is facing charges after human remains were found buried behind a home where he used to live.

The remains were found in the same location where 26-year-old veteran Chase Massner was last seen three years ago. It's also where Massner's friend, James Bradshaw Clement, used to live - and the center of an exhaustive search back when the Iraq War veteran first disappeared in 2014.

Massner's family previously told 11Alive that he struggled with returning to civilian life. They held searches in the area where he was last seen and professional search and rescue groups were even called in but no leads ever surfaced - until this week.

Acting on a tip, Cobb County police dug up human remains at the home after the new homeowners noticed something suspicious in their back yard.

Clement has since been charged with concealing a death, a felony charge.

Meanwhile, the remains police now have are believed to belong to Massner. However, they cautioned that a medical examiner has not yet positively identified them.

Cobb County Sheriff's Office has released a "Be on the lookout" flyer to the public.
