ATLANTA — The UGA football team got off to a blazing-fast start on Saturday.

Thanks to the perhaps the Dawgs' second-fastest player.

Junior receiver Tyler Simmons, who had been rather quiet before last week's outing versus Auburn, rolled for a 49-yard touchdown run in the opening minutes of the UMass game–a scoring jaunt that might have been a done deal before crossing the line of scrimmage.

Why is that?

a) UGA executed a nice misdirection play to the left, using D'Andre Swift as the decoy, before letting Simmons blast through the right side of the line.

b) None of the Minutemen defenders stood a chance of halting Simmons' direct line to the end zone.

CHECK OUT SIMMONS' RUSH TO DAYLIGHT:

As such, once Simmons squared his shoulders and entered full-on sprint mode to the goal line, it was akin to watching a track star compete against regular Joes ... after spotting 'em a 20-yard lead.

Of course, given the opponent disparity, this likely won't be Georgia's last long touchdown of the day.

With Georgia Tech and Alabama on the upcoming docket, the Dawgs starters might take permanent breathers just a few minutes after halftime.

By the way, 11Alive Sports’ official vote for the fastest UGA player on the roster: Mecole Hardman.
