Music legend Patti Labelle talks pie, has a "new attitude" on a serious disease

Patti LaBelle is on a mission to empower adults 65 years and older to get a new attitude about the risks of pneumococcal pneumonia and the importance of vaccination. The public awareness campaign, All About Your Boom™, aims to educate Baby Boomers about the risk of this potentially serious disease that can strike even healthy adults at any time.

Entertainer Patti LaBelle “knows where she’s goin’ and knows what to do,” just like in the lyrics of her popular song, “New Attitude.” Although she’s been a music icon for decades, this year she’s trying something new; releasing her first-ever jazz album, Bel Hommage - and that’s not the only new venture she’s passionate about.

Like many older adults Patti remains young at heart and doesn’t want anything to interfere with her doing the things she loves. Yet, she knows that being over 65 puts her at an increased risk for serious illnesses like pneumococcal pneumonia. Even healthy adults are at an increased risk for this illness because as adults age, their immune systems naturally weaken.

To encourage her fellow boomers to not let pneumococcal pneumonia keep them from doing the things they love, Patti brought together singers 65 and older to sing one of her classic songs with her. But what they didn’t know was that her crew had a surprise for them once they got on stage. To watch the video, go to AllAboutYourBoom.com.
