MARIETTA, Ga. - A Marietta man has been sentenced to life in prison plus 50 years after being convicted of sodomizing a young boy whom his mother was babysitting.

In May 2016, Christopher John Wrice was wearing an ankle monitor while on bond for a federal charge of child pornography, living with his mother in a Favor Road. His mother often babysat for neighborhood children in the apartment, which is where Wrice encountered the victim and assaulted him.

A few months later, the boy disclosed the abuse to his mother, who took him to be examined by a pediatrician and then reported the abuse to police. This week, the now nine-year-old boy testified Wrice had sodomized him twice, in and around the apartment.

On Thursday, jurors deliberated about 40 minutes before convicting Wrice, 26, of all counts: enticing a child for indecent purposes, aggravated sodomy, aggravated child molestation, and cruelty to children in the first degree.

Federal agents also seized two laptops belonging to Wrice, and forensic examinations of those laptops revealed hundreds of videos and images of child pornography, all of which involved young boys.

Wrice’s mother testified in his defense and said she didn’t tell the parents of the children she watched about her son’s child-pornography charges because he hadn’t been convicted.

Wrice was sentenced on Friday.
