Golfer conquers Atlanta course in Dogwood Invitational, shooting a ridiculous 57

Alex Ross shot 15-under 57 setting a course record.

ATLANTA -- This is unheard of: Davidson's Alex Ross - an Atlanta native - has set an 18-hole record during his round in the Dogwood Invitational at Druid Hills Golf Club.

NBC's Golf Channel reports Ross, a Pace Acadamy graduate, shot 1-over 73 in his second round before improving by 16 shots in his third round. The Davidson junior shot 15-under 57.

Golf Channel's Brentley Romine put that into perspective in an article after the wild score, reporting that no player in men's Division I golf has broken 60 and the Guinness Book of World Records recognizes 58 as the lowest 18-hole score.

He adds that some have recorded lower scores in "casual rounds" - the lowest was 55. Ross's personal best in college before Thursday was 67, Romine said.

Ross is 11 under for the tournament and four shots back from Georgia's Spencer Ralston and Auburn's Jacob Solomon.
