CeeLo Green to perform at Hawks halftime show

The Atlanta native will light up the halftime show when the Hawks take on the Celtics on Mar. 28.

ATLANTA — The Hawks will share the spotlight with an iconic Atlanta singer and rapper later this month.

The team announced that five-time GRAMMY award-winning artist CeeLo Green will grace the halftime stage at the Atlanta Hawks' game against the Boston Celtics on Mar. 28 at the State Farm Arena.

“Atlanta, this is your native son, CeeLo Green,” said CeeLo Green. “Come see me represent the city at the Hawks’ halftime show! No one does it like me … We going up!”

Green first came onto the music scene as a member of the southern hip-hop group Goodie Mob, along with Big Gipp, T-Mo and Khujo. With the release of their first album ‘Soul Food’ in 1995, the group became pioneers of the emerging southern rap scene. The group released two more classic albums, which propelled them to higher heights and cemented their status as Atlanta rap royalty.

After Green’s success with Goodie Mob, he reinvented himself, formed Gnarls Barkley, and released the 2006 worldwide hit “Crazy,” which reached #1 on several charts worldwide.

Following Gnarls Barkley, Green put his time back into his solo career as CeeLo Green and released the 2010 album The Lady Killer, which featured his hit single “Forget You,” which is now certified gold in the United States and achieved multi-platinum status around the world.
