ATLANTA -- Organizers of an obstacle race inspired by U.S. Navy SEAL training gave athletes a preview of what to expect during Saturday's BattleFrog.

"Our event is a tribute to our nation's military," said Michael Donnelly, a co-founder of BattleFrog and a former Naval special warfare sniper, communicator and explosives expert. "It gives people a way to learn about themselves and about the U.S. Navy SEALs."

"Our event last summer was so well received that we decided to bring BattleFrog back to the region again this year," said Donnelly. "We're looking forward to showing everyone our new obstacles that help people truly experience what it is like to train like a Navy SEAL."

BattleFrog Atlanta will be held on Saturday, May 16, 2015 at Georgia International Horse Park, 1996 Centennial Olympic Parkway in Conyers, Georgia.

Governor Nathan Deal has proclaimed Saturday as "BattleFrog Day" in the state of Georgia.

BattleFrog is a demanding obstacle course designed to test the strength, skill, and determination of any athlete. Participants are able to choose between the BattleFrog 8K with more than 25 obstacles and the BullFrog Mile and TadPole Dash 400M courses for children, all of which are inspired by BUD/S (Basic Underwater Demolition/SEAL) Training, the six-month long qualification course that all SEALs must undergo.

Elite athletes may compete in the 16K, double-lap format 8K. Racers can also participate in the BattleFrog Xtreme that enables them to run the 8K as many times as they choose in one day.

As difficult as it is, the event is also family-friendly with activities for all ages.

Thursday's race training took place at Crossfit Octopus in Chamblee, where Ryan Atkins, the world's top-rated obstacle course racer, gave local athletes race tips.

A resident of Ontario, Canada, Atkins has countless obstacle course racing titles and has won every BattleFrog elite men's 16K race this year. He recently finished a 16K, about 10 miles, in one hour and 31 minutes.

BattleFrog founders have announced that a percentage of the profits generated from the series will be shared evenly with the Navy SEAL Foundation and the Navy SEAL Museum & Memorial. This direct support honors the fallen, promotes the SEAL legacy and supports the families of those who served.
