SARASOTA, Fla. — Deputies with the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office are mourning the loss of a beloved K-9 who unexpectedly died last week from a medical episode, the agency shared.

K-9 Nox had an award-studded, eight-year career alongside Deputy Ryan McBride.

The sheriff's office says the Belgian Malinois had over 1,900 deployments, resulting in more than 50 criminal and civil apprehensions. Nox and McBride were recognized internally by the K-9 unit as the Handler and K-9 of the Year.

The duo was also awarded the 27th Annual Teledyne FLIR Vision “Fang” Award for a criminal apprehension in the inter-coastal waterway.

Nox was born in Poland on April 12, 2014. He began his work with McBride in May 2015.

"Knowing there is no bond quite like the one shared between a law enforcement officer and their faithful K-9 partner, it is difficult to find words that clearly express our grief," the sheriff's office wrote on its website.

"We at SCSO appreciate your thoughts and prayers for the McBride family and our agency as we process this heartbreaking loss."

Rest Easy K-9 Nox 🖤 It is with heavy hearts that we announce the unexpected death of K-9 Nox, a member of the SCSO K-9...
