Flagship Highland Bakery location in Atlanta set to close after 20 years

A second location and other businesses operated by Highland Bakery will remain open.

ATLANTA — Prepare to say farewell to another longtime staple of Highland Avenue's food scene.

Highland Bakery - the home of beloved favorites including fried chicken Benedict, peanut butter French toast and more - announced over the weekend it'll be closing the flagship location at 655 Highland Ave. NE. The location, which has been in operation for 20 years, will shutter on Jan. 31, according to a post signed by founder and CEO Stacey Eames on the restaurant's Facebook page.

The post chalked up the closure to a impending sale of the building and the end of the restaurant's lease.

"To our dedicated employees, past and present, thank you for your hard work, passion, and commitment to excellence. Your unwavering dedication has been the driving force behind the success of our business, and we are eternally grateful for your contributions," the post stated.

Not all is lost, though, for Highland Bakery fans - the Downtown Atlanta location near Georgia State University at 25 Park Place NE will remain in operation, the bakery's catering business remains intact and the coffee shop Press  & Grind will remain open at 992 North Highland Ave. NE.

The Facebook post continued:

We will continue to serve you through our online platforms and delivery apps with extended coverage.

In addition to our catering, we will also continue our specialty cake business with our in house artist as well as our collaboration with International Cake Hall of Fame designer, Karen Portaleo.

As we embark on this transition, we want to express our heartfelt appreciation for your understanding, support, and continued patronage. We look forward to the future with optimism and excitement, and we hope to continue sharing  some of Atlanta’s most beloved comfort food with y’all.

Thank you once again for being a part of our story, and we sincerely hope to have the opportunity to welcome you back to our table in the near future.
