Children's Healthcare of Atlanta creates special prom night for teen cancer patient

17-year-old Evelyn recently found out her cancer returned and has been receiving treatment at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

ATLANTA — Cancer may have interrupted Evelyn's senior year, but her team at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta made sure she still had a night to feel like queen of the prom.

Evelyn, a 17-year-old high school senior in Gwinnett County, first beat cancer a few years ago. But she recently found out her cancer returned, and she began treatment at Children's.

When her childlife specialist at Children's realized Evelyn would be missing so much of the senior fun -- including prom -- Becca Greer knew she needed to do something about it.

So on Monday night at Children's, prom came to the hospital.

Evelyn picked the theme, "Welcome to the Masquerade," and colors while Becca planned everything else. There was a photo booth, dancing, arts and crafts, games, and pizza.

Children's shared some photos of the occasion, including a golden retriever support animal who was a member of the prom court and the nurses and care specialists who surrounded Evelyn and helped make it an occasion to remember.
