From pies to sides - here are the most popular searches for Thanksgiving

According to Google Trends, these are the most popular sides.

ATLANTA — Thanksgiving is near and people are already thinking about what should go on their dinner table.

For those not used to cooking a feast, the World Wide Web seems to be a popular resource for finding some direction. This has led to an uptick in searches for recipes, ideas of what to bring to a dinner, or the easiest way to contribute to the holiday. Food, of course, is at the center of it all

From pies to sides - here's what people are searching for.

People are concerned about their bird

When it comes to dinner, people are looking at how to cook and what to bring - and making sure there's time to make it. However, what to do with the turkey takes center stage.

Take a gander at some of the most popular searched questions:

  • How many pounds of potatoes per person for Thanksgiving?
  • When to thaw turkey for Thanksgiving?
  • What to bring to Thanksgiving dinner?
  • How to brine a turkey?

To note - there's no true answer to these questions, but feel free to use the internet to find the method or time that best works for your scenario.

Most searchable sides for Thanksgiving

  • Green bean casserole
  • Sweet potato casserole
  • Cranberry sauce
  • Mashed potato
  • Stuffing

Recipes for these sides don't tend to pop up any other time of year. Though not a signal of their popularity, these seasonal dishes do tend to align with fall and a Thanksgiving meal.

A minor mention - the debate over whether it is called dressing or stuffing did appear in search trends. Dressing was also a top dish but did not outrank stuffing.

Searchable pies by state

Though the data doesn't necessarily show the most popular pies by state, it definitely hints at what might be popular on the dinner table.

The South, including Georgia, seems to be searching for sweet potato pie. This could be recipes, where to buy it, or how to make it. Of course, Florida is not counted in the region as the Sunshine State prides itself on all things key lime - and key lime pie is a delicacy any time of the year.
