New Orleans couple celebrates 65th Valentine's Day together

Michael and Margaret Dolan served in the Navy when they met in 1959 at Bethesda Hospital.

NEW ORLEANS — One New Orleans couple is celebrating a big milestone this Valentine's Day.

Michael and Margaret Dolan served in the Navy when they met in 1959 at Bethesda Hospital. Michael was a pilot, and Margaret was a nurse.

“And by God, the one who was prettiest was going to the chapel too, and I thought, ‘Wow, this might be a make,'" Michael Dolan said.

Since then, the couple says their love has never wavered.

“I still love her more than anything else," Michael said.

The couple tied the knot two years later. They've had three children and multiple grandchildren and lived on the West and East Coasts.

They moved to New Orleans around 40 years ago.

Michael was a physician who landed a job with NASA, and Margaret worked at Tulane Hospital.

They followed each other everywhere, and that hasn't changed.

“I had a very bad fall, and then Mike chose to stay with me here," Margaret said.

Margaret needed to move into an assisted living facility, so they'll celebrate this Valentine's Day at the Carrollton.

Michael is now 90, and Margaret is 87.

Their advice on making love last?

“If the next thing you’re going to say is not going to fix it but make it worse, don’t say it," Michael said.

65 Valentine's Days later, it's clear the rule is working.
